Film Swap

To experiment and play promotes creativity and joy in your life. I had the pleasure of hosting a film swap with the Film Photography group I lead here in Fort Worth. For those of you who might have never heard of a film swap, it’s where you expose a roll of film with whatever you like, then rewind it back into the film cassette. You don’t develop it yet. You swap it with another photographer who then exposes the roll again to create something unique. For our group, we had a blind exchange. Everyone chose a random roll. We then had a month to photograph, develop and print the images. At our next meet up, we shared the prints with everyone.

My two rolls were a lot of fun to shoot. I looked for a variety of subjects and colors. Not all of the images came out, and that’s okay. It’s about the process, the experimenting, the collaborating with another photographer not knowing what they will photograph. Everything was random and left to chance. There were a few that were very interesting and I shared those here. I did take the images in to Photoshop to pull out details and enhance the overall quality of the image. The goal was to reveal both images in the frame. I also overlapped a few to make a panorama of a combination of frames in sequence.

At the sharing meet up, it was neat to see everyone excitedly looking at and talking about the images that were created. A few of us swapped prints as well. Overall, I believe everyone had a great time trying something new and experimental. We look forward to playing again in the future.
