What began as a simple practice to relearn the nuances of shooting film and the different stocks available, turned into an essay of the forgotten and neglected spaces of small town America. Photowalks around different parts of town lent me the insight to see a pattern in what compelled me to push my shutter. Much like my subject matter, the medium I work with has also been neglected, forgotten, abandoned almost. It is as if the two are speaking together to be seen yet again. Even the camera bodies I use had been forgotten and neglected, unused for a long while waiting to be dusted off for a new project. Together, I capture the textures of the weathered buildings, the utility boxes hidden away from customers who will never think about their necessity, the discarded boxes by the door. From full store walls to their intimate details, I allow my camera, my film, and my subject matter to direct my captures in hopes of encompassing the stories of these overlooked spaces.
